NGO Leaders’ Training

As a way networking and impacting other non profits in Nigeria, we organise trainings centred on enabling effectiveness and building capacity. This year, we are training NGO Leaders on Core Values, Overcoming Obstacles, Mission Creep, and Knowing how to get Funding for NGOs.

So far we have had two trainings - the first one was in March and the second was a zoom training held in May, and we will be having two more before the year runs out. They will be in August and November respectively.

During our March training, we talked about “Crafting Core Values that Change a Community”. Participants were excited to learn how to create organisational core values, and we are glad we could assist in this way because we know how important core values are. At the end of the training, each participant was given a certificate of completion.

Here at The Leader Team, our Core Value is SHINE, an acronym which stands for Serve Others, Honour God, Improve Continually, Navigate by Values and Excel in Relationships. SHINE was crafted by Kris DenBesten, current chairman of  Vermeer Southeast's board of directors. Vermeer Southeast is a multi millionaire construction equipment company headquartered in Orlando, Florida.

Why Core Values are Essential to NGOs

  1. Inspire people to action

  2. Keep you focused

  3. Attract the right employees

  4. They weed out employees who are no longer a good fit

  5. Communicate your priorities to the community

  6. Shape your organizational culture

What Core Values are Not

  1. Your operating strategy

  2. Your programs or services

  3. Your vision or mission

  4. Strategic plan

  5. Your goals
