I Took The SHINE Pledge!

As a business having core values is very important. It guides you and forms a culture that every employee gets to learn and practice. These values show your customers and partners who you are and what you believe.

At The Leader Team, we empower mentees with a vision called SHINE, short for Serve Others, Honour God, Improve Continually, Navigate by Values and Excel in Relationships. The SHINE is an acronym developed by Kris DenBesten, author of the book SHINE and CEO of Vermeer Southeast, a US based construction equipment company headquartered in Orlando, Florida.

He is also one of our international mentors and is on our Board of Directors. Kris was inspired by God to develop this concept which he taught to his workers and now our mentees get to learn this same values.

As part of the program, mentees read the SHINE book and to take a pledge to show that they are willing to imbibe the concepts of the SHINE vision into their businesses and lives. Here is what they commit to.

The Shine Pledge

Today, I take the SHINE pledge.  

Serve Others

I commit to serving others, not first to be served.  With everyone God bring in my pathway, my customers, my colleagues, my family and everyone I do business with, I pledge to put others first and become like Jesus through servant leadership.  

Honor God 

I commit to honouring God shown through always making choices with integrity.  I pledge to do the right things at all times, whether in front of people or when someone is not looking.  I will not engage in bribes of any kind.  My word will be truth always.  I will not participate in deception or corruption of any kind.  I will honour God even when I do not see the rewards now.  The gift I give to future generations is far greater than momentary gain.  I am committed to a bigger vision! 

Improve Continually

I pledge to improve continually.  I will not start something well only to finish weak.  I will do everything with a spirit of excellence.  I will continually grow my personal skill set and knowledge by learning, mentorship, reading, and education.  I will not be content with things that are not maintained well.  I will produce quality in all my work and my service.  

Navigate By Values

I commit to navigating every decision whether in my home or work through these values.  I will not allow my aim to drift for momentary pleasure, fame, power or influence.  I will be true to my word, honouring my commitments and making sure my family, friends, employees, colleagues and customers can trust my choices and word 100% of the time to be guided with this wisdom.  This pledge is not a season, it is my life commitment.  

Excel In Relationships

I pledge to excel in relationships.  I do this by genuinely caring about those God sends to me.  I will not care only about the sale of my products.  I will care about my customers as a whole person not just a sale.  I will not exclude people or make their process more difficult because they are not from my tribe, language or religion.  I will treat all people with equal dignity and respect as the Image of God.  I pledge to not use favouritism in my business or home life.  

I pledge to let my light SHINE.
